Rozzie + Ben’s Winter Wedding

Through my many years of wedding experience, I have learned the details that make a wedding truly special and memorable have nothing to do with money.  The details that are special about your wedding day come from your history, your traditions, your relationship with your partner and your loved ones.  Rozzie + Ben’s wedding at the Hilton Boston Logan was certainly elegant and quite lavish.  But the emotion and tradition I captured that day trumped all else.  Rozzie + Ben had a very traditional Jewish wedding complete with a Tisch and Bedeken.  Along with the Ketubah signing, these three beautiful and meaningful ceremonies marry a couple before the actual ceremony.  I’m so excited to share their story with you!

The Year in Review, Part One

Children, Teens & Families What a year it has been!  I’ve been so fortunate this year and have done more shooting than ever.  This year’s review will come in chapters and is going to take us right through to New Year’s Eve!   My children, teens and family business is booming thanks, in part, to my beloved former clients.  I don’t advertise family portraiture at all.  All of my work comes from word of mouth.  I was floored by all the business brought in this year by my beloved clients.  I photographed babies of former brides, children of former bridesmaids and siblings of former portrait clients.  I was thrilled when former clients called me for gift certificates.  They were so happy with their experience and images, they wanted to give that gift to a loved one!  I was equally as honored when past portrait clients came back for another year.  This was my second and third time photographing some of these families!   I have so much fun photographing children and families!  The babies just make me melt.  And the toddlers are a blast to chase around an play with.  I’ve learned to turn the shoot into one big game […]

Maddy’s Bat Mitzvah

Maddy and I met three years ago when I shot her brother’s Bar Mitzvah.  I remember her as a sweet, fun and energetic little girl.  Today, she is a vivacious, smart young woman.  What a difference three years make!  She celebrated her Bat Mitzvah at the Royal Sonesta in Cambridge.  The party was a dance theme (one of Maddy’s favorite pastimes) and the ballroom was covered in pink!  Family photos were even more special set against the backdrop of the Boston city skyline.  What a great evening!

Teddy & Sean’s Seaport Boston Wedding

I had the pleasure of working with Sean’s wonderful mom Debbie for all their wedding plans.  Debbie obviously has great taste as she chose me as her photographer (he he he!) and my beloved Seaport as the property.  It was obvious how excited Debbie was for her son and future daughter-in-law and how she wanted everything to be just perfect for them.  But there is always an element of surprise when walking into a situation where you haven’t met your clients.  And what a lovely surprise!  From the second I walked into Teddy’s wedding suite, I felt welcome and comfortable.  It’s obvious, Teddy is a beauty, which never hurts!  But more importantly, Teddy and Sean were so comfortable with each other and so happy together.  Some of Teddy’s family also flew in from overseas, which made for even more of a celebration.  I was so honored to be a part of their special day.

My Weekend with the Shems

I’ve been looking forward to Leah’s Bat Mitzvah for over a year!  I had worked with the Shems at their son Matthew’s Bar Mitzvah three years earlier and it was so much fun.  I knew this one would be a blast!  And despite Nemo working hard to make a mess of things, Leah’s Bat Mitzvah was a fun as promised…one day later.   Leah’s Bat Mitzvah was scheduled for Saturday, February 9.  Anyone near New England (or with a TV, computer or radio) knows that was exactly when Blizzard Nemo dumped several feel of snow on the Northeast.  Knowing the storm was approaching, I was in contact with Leah’s mom Alicia on Friday.  I was most worried about driving conditions that wouldn’t allow me to get to them.  Alicia, quite off the cuff said, “Do you want to stay here Friday?”  “Oh no, that’s not necessary,” was my first thought.  But as the reports started getting more drastic, and a travel ban was looming, the panic set it.  I thought, “There is no way I’m missing this Bat Mitzvah.”  Next thing you know, I’m packing a bag and heading to the Shems’ house for a sleepover.   But Nikki!  Didn’t […]

Twice the fun!

It’s official!  I really am in love with these two beautiful girls!  It’s true, twins are twice the work, but they’re also twice the fun!  And these two beauties had lovely dispositions.  We had a great time taking some photos where they are the most comfortable…in their own home.  All these photos were taken in on the bed in their guest room where we found some beautiful window light.    The afternoon window light made their skin soft and their eyes pop.  With all that fun, the twin girls were ready for a nap by the time I left.  I love the last photo of the entire family tuckered out and happy.  What a great day!

Best of 2012!

What a year it has been!  As I reflect on the past year, I see how lucky I’ve been to have worked with such lovely and unique people.  My job has taken me to beautiful locations and has introduced me to some truly wonderful people.  I’ve had such a difficult time choosing my favorite images of 2012…which you’ll see…as there are many!  I’ve had the opportunity to witness and capture some really special and one of a kind moments.  I’m so pleased to be able to share some of my favorites.   The engagement session can be an important part of my job.  And certainly one of the most fun!  It’s my first opportunity to really spend some time with my clients.  I learn about their relationships, personalities and styles.  And my clients learn what it’s like to be photographed.  I always ask my clients to choose a location that is special to them and speaks to their relationship.  So I find myself in some interesting spots from local bars and city streets to hiking trails and farms.  Here are some of my favorite from this year…     The wedding day is a wild and exciting day.  By far, […]

Thank Heavens for Little Girls!

The holiday season is here.  And like many other photographers, I am locked away in my office editing my fingers to the bone to meet holiday deadlines. Before my eyes cross, it’s time for a break!  I thought I’d share a shoot done this fall with two of the cutest girls I’ve worked with!  There is something great about shooting little girls.  They’re confident, fun and full of energy!  We had a blast playing in the park!

Josephine’s Photos at Four Months

Four months old is such a great age for baby photos.  Babies are just starting to hold their heads up and their personalities are starting to shine.  Josephine is a beautiful baby!  And she was the perfect model.  There are some great photos of Josephine laying on her belly proudly holding her head and hands up for the crowd.  And she was so curious!  There is a whole series of photos of Josephine very seriously studying her feet.  We had three generations in the studio as Josephine’s mom brought her mom for some help.  And I can see where Josephine gets her easy and happy personality.  It was a lovely day in the Photography by Nikki Cole studios.  Ladies, please come back any time!

Ryker, Photos of A Brave and Beautiful Baby at Children’s Hospital

Weeks ago, I was contact by a woman in Utah who was looking for a Boston photographer to donate a portrait session for some friends who had relocated to bring their baby boy to Children’s Hospital.  Ryker is now just over four months old and has already had four major heart surgeries.  Although it is incredibly long, I feel it’s important to spell out Rykers full diagnosis to show just what this amazing baby has been through.  His specific medical diagnosis is…   Heterotaxy RAI (right atrial isomerism) with Asplenia, Right Dominant AtrioVentrical Canal (AVC), Total Anomalous Pulmonary Vein Return (TAPVR), Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV), Left-Sided Pulmonary Vein Stinosis (PVS), & Ventricular Discordance. He also has Heart Block, therefore he has an internal PaceMaker.   So Jay and Rachel Warner uprooted their family and brought Ryker to Children’s Hospital.  Before Ryker goes in for his fifth major heart surgery, Rachel (a true photo buff) wanted to have a family portrait taken.  I was honored to lend my skills.  Luckily, Children’s Hospital has a lovely courtyard that we were able to utilize for the portraits.  It was Ryker’s first time outdoors ever.  You should have seen him looking around!  I […]
