Alexandra and Louie’s Autumn, Red Lion Inn Wedding

Alex and Louie are one of the most lovely couples I’ve ever met.  I can’t get over how utterly taken they are with each other.  I knew at our engagement session that they were going to be a blast on their wedding day.  They had a picture perfect day at the Red Lion Inn in Cohassett.  Alex got ready in RLI’s Salon du Soleil among beautiful chandeliers and some great light.  The light pinks and yellows of Alex’s decor were a perfect foil for the Fall foliage while the branch in Alex’s bouquet and the pumpkin place cards were a perfect homage to the season.  We had their first look under one RLI’s covered bridges and it was one of the sweetest first looks I’ve ever seen.  Just check out the look on Louie’s face.  It was priceless.  The grounds were popping with great foliage and greenery for formal photos.  And the barn was gorgeously lit with pin lighting and candles.  Guests danced all evening to the Motown band Sweet Beats with a surprise performance by the groom.  You can see from the photos, Alex was totally tickled.  Alex and Louie, thanks so much for allowing me to be a […]

Kate and John’s Boston Harbor Hotel Wedding

For those of you who have followed my blog, you’ll know how much of a sucker I am for a close family and a great story.  Safe to say, I’m in love with Kate and John.  Their wedding at the Boston Harbor Hotel could not have been more fun and gorgeous to photograph.  The champagne colored bridesmaids dresses were elegant.  The flowers (oh my god, can you say white dahlias?) all in cream were fabulous.  But beyond that, they’re truly special people with amazing friends and family.  You won’t be able to miss Kate’s spectacular smile in every single photo.  That smile is completely genuine.  And she’s not stingy with it.  I have no doubt that smile and warmth is exactly what made John fall in love with her.  Kate and John both have wonderful and close knit families.  Kate made sure we went out of our way to have formal photos in Post Office Square as a nod to her father who actually designed the park.  And John’s two brothers made a point to mention one of their favorite things about Kate was her warmth and special relationship with John’s third brother, Andrew who has special needs.  Family, and […]

Sooji and Joe’s Elegant Endicott Estate Wedding

I have a special fondness for Sooji and Joe.  They’re sweet, talented and totally in love with each other.  And they’re in the wedding business which makes them extra fun!  Sooji and Joe are florists and met in school learning the craft.  They now work together and created every piece you see on their wedding day!  When I arrived at the Endicott Estate, Sooji and Joe were still putting the finishing touches on the room.  It had to be tough putting all that work in on your own wedding day, but it was totally worth it.  The centerpieces with white hydrangea and orchids were beautiful.  The bouquets of calla lilies were simple and gorgeous and you have to check out the amazing ceremony pieces and place card table piece.   They both ran upstairs with just enough time to prepare for the big day.  Joe surprised Sooji with the most lovely bracelet.  It was a gorgeous day for an outdoor ceremony by the gazebo on the Endicott Estate property.  And we were able to take some beautiful portraits under one of the many big, beautiful trees on the vast lawn of the estate while their 50 guests enjoyed cocktails and […]

Claudette and Jonathan’s Royal Sonesta Cambridge Wedding

Claudette and Jonathan enjoyed a gorgeous day in Cambridge for their wedding celebration.  And I just can’t get over Claudette’s smile all day!  We started at the Royal Sonesta getting ready.  No first look for this traditional couple.  Wedding details included Jonathan’s gorgeous watch that was a gift from Claudette and a very special photo charm tucked into Claudette’s bouquet to remember her father.  The striking MIT Chapel made a beautiful backdrop for their ceremony.  Then it was back to the Sonesta for special toasts and salsa dancing!  Their first dance kicked off the dancing starting with a lovely acoustic version of Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream morphing quickly into a fabulous Latin rhythm!  It didn’t take long for the dance floor to fill! Don’t forget to check out their full slide show!   VENDORS Ceremony: MIT Chapel Reception: Royal Sonesta Cambridge Cake: Montilio’s Video: Black Tie Video DJ: Good Times Unlimited, Inc Hair & Makeup: Blushing Brides Flowers: Stapleton

Amanda and Michael’s Waterfront Boston Wedding

After threats of rain all week, Amanda and Michael’s wedding day was just gorgeous with a brilliant blue sky!  We spent the entire day at the Exchange Conference Center with gave us great photos on the pier and on the ocean.  The ceremony was held outside right on the water with a tented dinner to follow.  The tent was gorgeous complete with an organza draped ceiling and chandeliers.  The flowers by Jeri Solomon Floral Design gave the tent and airy garden feel.  After dinner, guests headed inside the Exchange Conference Center and danced the night away!  I’d have to say, the star of the show was absolutely Amanda’s daughter Leah.  Amanda and Michael did a wonderful job including her in the entire day.  She was the flower girl, received a beautiful locket from Michael during the ceremony, sat at the head table and was even a part of their special first dance.  It was so touching!   And don’t forget to take a peek at their full slide show! Lisa & Josh’s Cambridge Waterfront Wedding

Lisa and Josh’s wedding was just gorgeous!  We spent the day at the Royal Sonesta in Cambridge.  Their first look was right on the Charles River with under a brilliant blue sky with a fabulous view of Boston.  It was a windy day, but Lisa and Josh were excellent sports about it.  We were also able to sneak out for a few more bridal portraits after the ceremony just before sunset.  Their traditional Jewish ceremony was held under a splendid chuppah of delicate pink and white flowers.  When the ballroom opened up, the fantastic view of the Boston city skyline was revealed.  That, along with the stylish white dance floor and dramatic ballroom lighting made a perfect backdrop for their fabulous party.  Don’t forget to watch the full slide show below for one of the best first dance songs ever!         Check out their full slide show here!  Their fabulous vendors… Royal Sonesta Boston Rentals Unlimited Beantown Band Suzanne B. Do You Have to Like Your Wedding Photographer?

I recently had the President of a Boston based company to my studio for a head shot.  We sat down in my office to talk about how he was going to use his images and the message he wanted to convey with them.  He was a nice man and I really enjoyed talking with him.  We created a lovely rapport which made the actual photo session a breeze.  When it was over, the man asked me if I photographed weddings.  Of course!  I love shooting weddings!  He proceeded to tell me about his daughter’s beautiful wedding and the difficult time they had with their own wedding photographer.  He didn’t go into detail, but it seemed the photographer’s conduct that day made the photos unpleasant and that showed in the images.   The discussion got me thinking.  Do you have to like your wedding photographer?  I say yes.  A Bride and Groom on their wedding day will often spend a large amount of time with their wedding photographer.  I normally arrive hours prior to the wedding to photograph the Bride getting ready.  I’ve found my demeanor upon arrival can make or break the entire day.  If I appear stressed and harried, […]

Daylight not Included – Shooting Portraits at Night

Wedding and event photography can be unique as photographers have very little control over their setting and subjects.  We rarely get to weigh in on the time of day these events happen.  Occasionally, my wedding clients will consult with me when deciding their ceremony time and I love when they do.  But I understand that optimal lighting is not the top priority for my couples.  In fact, if you’ve hired a professional, seasoned and talented photographer, you should not have to worry about lighting at all.  A great wedding photographer should know how to create beautiful images regardless of the lighting.   So when I’m told my only chance to get the entire wedding party together is after sunset, I’m not phased at all.  Not only am I confident I can create beautiful indoor images.  I’m downright excited about shooting outdoors at night.  I get the chance to pull out extra lights and stands and create a fabulous evening portrait.  When you know what you’re doing, evening can be a perfect time for photography.  I’m more able to create and control my own lighting at night.  It can be a blast!  Below, are some of my favorite evening photos.

The Top Ten Ways to Enjoy Your Wedding Day

Between photographing and planning weddings, I’ve worked with hundreds of brides and grooms.  And while most of them have a blast on their wedding day, sadly some find themselves tired, uncomfortable and unhappy.  Some have made unfortunate choices while planning their big day and some are just too stressed and freaked out to enjoy the day.  After all the planning and money put into their wedding day, it breaks my heart when a client is not able to enjoy it!  I’d like to help future engaged couples of the world enjoy every minute of their wedding day.  So here are my top ten tips to do just that. Hire people you trust and enjoy – If you trust your wedding vendors you will not spend your day worrying if they are actually going to do what you’ve asked them to do.  If you enjoy your wedding vendors, you will be happy to see them when they arrive.  They will add to your happy day rather than being someone you have to put up with. Take care of yourself on the days leading up to your wedding day – I know when I’m tired I’m more likely to overreact to stress […]

Melissa + Timothy’s Seaport Boston Wedding

When getting to know Melissa and Tim, it was obvious their friends and family were very important to them.  They found a way to incorporate every guest into their ceremony and it was so lovely!  Each guest was given a penny as they were seated.  And a special point in the ceremony the guests were asked to take out their penny and to make a wish for the couple.  They were invited to drop the penny in a special jar the two had engraved for the ceremony.  Melissa and Tim also made their wish and dropped the penny into the jar.  It was so touching!  Possibly my new favorite ceremony addition!  It was beautiful celebration all evening!
