My Weekend with the Shems

I’ve been looking forward to Leah’s Bat Mitzvah for over a year!  I had worked with the Shems at their son Matthew’s Bar Mitzvah three years earlier and it was so much fun.  I knew this one would be a blast!  And despite Nemo working hard to make a mess of things, Leah’s Bat Mitzvah was a fun as promised…one day later.   Leah’s Bat Mitzvah was scheduled for Saturday, February 9.  Anyone near New England (or with a TV, computer or radio) knows that was exactly when Blizzard Nemo dumped several feel of snow on the Northeast.  Knowing the storm was approaching, I was in contact with Leah’s mom Alicia on Friday.  I was most worried about driving conditions that wouldn’t allow me to get to them.  Alicia, quite off the cuff said, “Do you want to stay here Friday?”  “Oh no, that’s not necessary,” was my first thought.  But as the reports started getting more drastic, and a travel ban was looming, the panic set it.  I thought, “There is no way I’m missing this Bat Mitzvah.”  Next thing you know, I’m packing a bag and heading to the Shems’ house for a sleepover.   But Nikki!  Didn’t […]

Twice the fun!

It’s official!  I really am in love with these two beautiful girls!  It’s true, twins are twice the work, but they’re also twice the fun!  And these two beauties had lovely dispositions.  We had a great time taking some photos where they are the most comfortable…in their own home.  All these photos were taken in on the bed in their guest room where we found some beautiful window light.    The afternoon window light made their skin soft and their eyes pop.  With all that fun, the twin girls were ready for a nap by the time I left.  I love the last photo of the entire family tuckered out and happy.  What a great day!

Jocelyn & Nick’s Boston Engagement Session

Remember when you didn’t need eight layers to leave the house?  We had the perfect weather for this Fall Engagement Session!  Sigh.   When thinking about an engagement session, I always tell my clients to choose a spot that is special for them.  Find a location that will speak to their relationship and personalities.  Jocelyn and Nick love the city!  And we had a blast wandering around.  We started with a drink at the bar in the Omni Parker Hotel.  The Omni Parker Hotel also happens to be the location of their wedding reception, so it was extra special.  The large windows and dark wood were perfect for a shoot.  It was cozy, comfortable and romantic!  We finished by taking a walk in the Public Garden.  Jocelyn & Nick are true naturals in front of the camera.  But I think it also helped that they were in an environment they loved.

Beauty is Pain!

As a girl growing up, I’d often hear my mother telling me “beauty is pain.”  She was also known to quote her mother saying, “If it zippers, it fits…” but that’s a story for another day.  My shoot with Naomi really gives that phrase new meaning!  Naomi is a stunning and truly gifted vocalist and was wanting to add a more grown up and sophisticated look to her portfolio.  The session started easily enough in the studio, but then moved to the waterfront.  This is not a session from months ago!  It was last month!  The waterfront in mid-winter is not the most comfortable place to be even dressed appropriately.  But as you notice Naomi’s wardrobe, there is a lot of bare skin there (my mother would have also mentioned catching pneumonia dressed like that…but I digress).  And she was a total trooper, even when it started raining!  She did not complain once!  Is was so cold out, a passer by stopped everything to bring Naomi a cup of hot tea to warm her up.  I’m pretty sure he was in love!  And let’s please not miss the shoes Naomi is wearing.  They were very interesting on the wooden bridge […]

An Autumn Engagement Session in New England

I’m cold!  And to keep warm, I’ve decided to remember more comfortable times.  Here is one of my favorite engagement sessions from this past fall.   When I was contacted by Carlie and Connor about their wedding photography, I was so excited!  Connor is a member of one of my favorite families, the Donovans.  This will be the third Donovan family wedding I’ve photographed and I’m really looking forward to it!  Carlie and Connor decided to have their engagement session at Smolak Farms and it was a beautiful choice!  Smolak Farms demonstrates much of New England’s beauty in the Fall and was the perfect backdrop for this fun couple.  The colors are just beautiful!

Best of 2012!

What a year it has been!  As I reflect on the past year, I see how lucky I’ve been to have worked with such lovely and unique people.  My job has taken me to beautiful locations and has introduced me to some truly wonderful people.  I’ve had such a difficult time choosing my favorite images of 2012…which you’ll see…as there are many!  I’ve had the opportunity to witness and capture some really special and one of a kind moments.  I’m so pleased to be able to share some of my favorites.   The engagement session can be an important part of my job.  And certainly one of the most fun!  It’s my first opportunity to really spend some time with my clients.  I learn about their relationships, personalities and styles.  And my clients learn what it’s like to be photographed.  I always ask my clients to choose a location that is special to them and speaks to their relationship.  So I find myself in some interesting spots from local bars and city streets to hiking trails and farms.  Here are some of my favorite from this year…     The wedding day is a wild and exciting day.  By far, […]

Melissa & Ed’s Winter Wedding at the Topsfield Commons

I can’t think of a better way to finish this year’s wedding posts!  I just love the Forchielli family!  They’re my kind of family.  They’re incredibly close, but are happy to welcome anyone into their good time.  And when they have a party, they pull no punches!  The day started with a beautiful, semi-private sneak peek (you’ll see Melissa’s mom couldn’t help but peek out the window at the Commons) followed by some beautiful outdoor (and maybe a little chilly!) photos.  The backdrop of The Topsfield Commons is perfect for a winter wedding!  Melissa & Ed’s ceremony incorporated so many family members, including Melissa’s uncle as officiant.  And the party was amazing!  Specialty drinks, festive intermezzo, fabulous candy station, passed french fries, and so much more!  They even hired a professional painter to capture the scene.  Way to go Melissa & Ed!  I loved every second of photographing your wedding!

Thank Heavens for Little Girls!

The holiday season is here.  And like many other photographers, I am locked away in my office editing my fingers to the bone to meet holiday deadlines. Before my eyes cross, it’s time for a break!  I thought I’d share a shoot done this fall with two of the cutest girls I’ve worked with!  There is something great about shooting little girls.  They’re confident, fun and full of energy!  We had a blast playing in the park!

Kristen & Gregg’s Wedding at Granite Links

Kristen and Gregg are a fun and easy couple.  No drama, no fuss, just fun!  To that end, the couple started the reception letting their guests know it was a party!  They gave all their guests maracas and were introduced into the Granite Links ballroom to Harry Belefante’s Jump in the Line.  As they entered the room, Kristen and Gregg pulled all of their guests on the dance floor with them.  It was such a fun moment!  Kristen and Gregg’s friends and family proved to be just as fun dancing the night away with the band Boston Common.  Check out some of their photo booth pics!  Thanks for the great night Kristen & Gregg!

Erica & Eric’s Fall Wedding

Erica and Eric are a lot of fun and I really enjoyed their wedding day.  It was a beautiful fall day and we were able to take advantage of some lovely foliage at Cedar Grove Cemetery (yes, you heard me!).  Who knew we’d find such perfect backdrops in a cemetery!  It goes to show you, never say never.  I also love seeing how my clients use special touches to personalize their wedding.  Erica added a beautiful touch to her bouquet.  She was able to keep the history of her parent’s and grandparent’s marriages with her all evening by sewing her mother’s and grandmother’s wedding bands into her bouquet.  It was lovely!
