Leanne + Justin’s Snowy Wedding at the Barn at Gibbet Hill

So I’ll admit it.  I was really hoping for a beautiful spring day for Leanne and Justin!  There are so many gorgeous outdoor spots at the Barn at Gibbet Hill.  I wanted to take advantage of them all!  Well life laughs as we make our plans.  We woke to a chilly, clear day with snow covering the surrounding hills.  I can work with that!  Leanne and Justin (and their fabulous wedding party) were total champs braving the cold to get those beautiful outdoor images.  I feel so lucky to have (what I hope are) some of the last snow flakes of the year on those hills!  Leanne and Justin’s easy and fun personalities made the rest of the day perfect.

Spring Wedding Fever!

I’m cold.  No, I’m really cold!  But I know Spring is just around the corner.  And while I dream of the April showers bringing May flowers, I get excited for my 2014 Spring Weddings!  Spring weddings in New England are truly special.  Spring in Boston is colorful, fragrant and romantic.  And Spring weddings in Boston are the same!  As I look forward to Spring in Boston, I think back to some of my favorite Spring wedding photos.

Rozzie + Ben’s Winter Wedding

Through my many years of wedding experience, I have learned the details that make a wedding truly special and memorable have nothing to do with money.  The details that are special about your wedding day come from your history, your traditions, your relationship with your partner and your loved ones.  Rozzie + Ben’s wedding at the Hilton Boston Logan was certainly elegant and quite lavish.  But the emotion and tradition I captured that day trumped all else.  Rozzie + Ben had a very traditional Jewish wedding complete with a Tisch and Bedeken.  Along with the Ketubah signing, these three beautiful and meaningful ceremonies marry a couple before the actual ceremony.  I’m so excited to share their story with you!

Donna + Todd’s New Year’s Wedding

New Year’s weddings are almost always the most fun wedding of the year!  There is an added festive feeling in the air.  Guests arrive ready for a party!  This year was no different.  Donna and Todd are such a wonderful couple!  I’ve been looking forward to their wedding since they booked.  We had a fantastic engagement session where I heard all about their goal of achieving their black belt together right around the time of the wedding.  Yes, I had visions of one of them showing up with a black eye.  Well, there were no visual bruises, but you’ll notice that after the ceremony, Donna is not wearing her ring on her left hand….ahem.  All in all, a great evening with a fantastic group of people!

Year in Review, Part Eight

Weddings The Celebration!   The  planning is over.  The formals are taken.  He’s kissed the bride.  It’s time to party!  This is when the bride and groom finally get to give a sigh of relief and celebrate with their closest friends and relatives.  And this is the when I am able to truly disappear.  No, I don’t leave the wedding!  But I take a step back, put my long lens on and capture the beautiful emotion happening all around me.  The story teller in me does a little dance of joy!   This is my last post of 2013, and I think it’s perfect to finish the year with some of my favorite reception photos.  We end the year with toasts, dancing and cake…perfection!  It’s been an honor capturing these truly singular memories over the past year.  I can’t wait to see you all in 2014.  There will be many more adventures to come!  Happy New Year!

Year in Review, Part Seven

Weddings The Details   The wedding day details are truly important!  They’re the little mementos and projects couples work on to add meaning and personality to the day.  Since many of these details are not saved (flowers, favors, place cards, etc.) a great photo can be the only way to remember the items and the work put into selecting, and sometimes creating them.  Sometimes, the location or backdrop of a wedding can be the most fabulous detail.  I’ve photographed on beautiful beaches, rustic farms and against amazing city skylines.  Through the year, I’ve been deeply touched by the heirlooms I’ve seen as well, everything from a gorgeous broach from a great grandmother’s wedding to a piece of flannel from a deceased father’s favorite shirt.  What a beautiful way to keep your loved ones close.

Year in Review, Part Six

Weddings The Ceremony   The ceremony is an incredibly special part of the day.  It is, after all, why all your loved ones have come together!  Whether it is in a garden, a ballroom, a temple or a church, I work to be as unobtrusive and invisible as possible.  I want the attention on your moment, not the crazy photographer.  This, of course, is balanced with making sure I am in the perfect spot to catch the unique traditions and moments of your special day.  I’ve been complimented by several couples who were amazed by the fact that they didn’t see me once during their ceremony.  Some actually feared I hadn’t taken any photos!  Now that’s what I call unobtrusive!

Year In Review, Part Five

Weddings The Formals   This category can be a bit deceiving.  Most often, my formal photos at a wedding are anything but formal!  I want my clients to look and feel natural in their family and wedding party photos.  So we keep the session light, fun…and maybe a bit goofy.  The light atmosphere is even more important these days as many couples are choosing to see each other prior to the ceremony to complete the session and enjoy the rest of the day.  Since the ceremony is still ahead, they’re often still pretty nervous.  I’ve been known to do just about anything to lighten the mood!

Year in Review, Part Four

Weddings Getting Ready I’m not afraid to admit, I love shooting weddings!  It’s a good thing too, because they make up the bulk of my work.  I’ve separated my year in review into the distinctly different segments of the day.  The first part of the day can be the most important for a photographer.  When we first arrive, the bride is just getting ready.  The jitters often abound!  Tension can be high and the photographer plays a very special role.  We can either add to the tension of the day or work to lighten the load.  I always try to make my clients comfortable the moment I arrive.  This sets the tone for the rest of my work.  The details and moments I capture while the bride gets ready are among my favorite all day.

Year in Review, Part Three

Studio & Corporate Work   This aspect of my work has really grown in the past year!  The boring old head shot got a makeover!  Professionals need head shots for company websites and social media.  But I approach them in a much more contemporary way that infuses some of their personalities in the image.   I had the opportunity to shoot events for some amazing companies and charities.  And this year, I spent two days working pro bono for a spectacular non-profit organization called Roca.  They give inner city kids an opportunity to get out of the gang lifestyle and into viable jobs.  I loved working with them and learning more about their great progress.   Finally, I had the most fun opportunity of my career.  I spent four days shooting games in Fenway Park for the Red Sox.  I was all over the park including on the filed during the opening ceremonies of opening day.  What a thrill!  As always, some of my favorites are below!
