Alexandra and Richard’s Spring, Seaport Boston Wedding

Boston Seaport Wedding Alex and Rich are great fun!  And they exemplify many things I hold dear.  Family is so important to them.  So much, that Alex named her grandmother (Bubbie) as her Matron of Honor.  Bubbie was celebrating a very special 97th birthday that weekend.  Alex and Rich tied the knot with a traditional Jewish Ceremony in Seaport Hotel‘s Winter Garden. The Winter Garden is all windows, facing an outdoor garden and filled with light.  It’s a joy to shoot.  Guests moved to Seaport’s Plaza Ballroom for the celebration where they dance from the moment the entered the room until the very end of the evening.  The ballroom was covered in light pinks and creams complete with beautiful, soft up-lighting.  The room was just gorgeous.    Alex and Rich got ready right at Seaport.  Alex wanted to make sure Bubbie was looking her best.  It got pretty touching as they all watched her get her makeup done. Their first look was right in the Plaza Garden.  It was a beautiful day.  The garden and city skyline were fantastic backdrops for formal photos. Did I mention the fabulous light in the ceremony space?  Alex’s great-uncle was the Rabbi that day […]

Is Up-Lighting Right for Your Event Space?

There are so many ways to personalize your decor.  It’s tough to decide which special touches are worth your precious funds.  When trying to stretch your decor dollars, one detail that can make a huge impact is up-lighting.  This gorgeous phenomenon involves lights placed on the floor strategically throughout your event space along the wall.  They help to glow up the wall and, when placed correctly, can change the entire look and even color of your space.  They can help create depth and interest in a large, open space.  They can make any ballroom match your color scheme.  Or, they can turn your dance floor into a night club toward the end of the night.   Up-lighting can be subtle or dramatic.  You can add touches of color in key spots of a room.  Or you can wash the room in an easy amber tone.  Or you can get dramatic with vibrant color or by using multiple colors at the same time or morphing one into the other.  My favorite is when a client starts subtle for formalities and dinner and ends dramatic for dancing.  But you’ll need to make sure your lighting package remains on site for that fabulous look. A Week in the Life of a Boston Photographer

As a Boston photographer,  I am always honored to be able to capture special and memorable events. My job gives me the opportunity to have fun every single day of the week, I can travel to old and new places in the Boston area and meet amazing people. Here are some of the events my job has taken me on one week in April: A Truly talented jazz harpist at the Scullers Jazz Club:  I was hired to shoot the first headlining concert for jazz harpist, Charles Overton.  It was a fantastic show and musicians are always a blast to shoot.  I’ve always considered it a treat.  Ironically, I got this job from one of my contacts in the wedding world Felice Pomeranz, one of his teachers.   Porsche Norwell for the unveiling of the new 911: I was hired by event planner extraordinaire Carol McKean for a swanky little event planned to unveil the new Porsche dealership in Norwell and the new Porsche 911.  Guests walked down a red carpet, enjoyed a whiskey tasting and a fabulous raw bar and hors d’oeuvres while waiting for the unveiling.  And what a car!   Crazy funky Brian Thomas/ Alex Lee-Clark Big Band at the Ryles […]

Donna and Tom – Seaport Boston Spring Wedding

Seaport Boston Wedding Donna and Tom’s wedding was a real treat for me for so many reasons.  Tom is an old friend and through planning the wedding, Donna became a new friend.  So I got to capture the wedding of two beloved friends.  They were married in the Lighthouse of Seaport Hotel which happens to be the ballroom my husband and I had our wedding.  It’s a gorgeous room to shoot with sweeping city views, high ceilings, and contemporary LED lighting.  Their ceremony was held at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross which is just breathtaking.  But far above all that, Donna and Tom are so in love it’s palpable.  They were so excited to be married and couldn’t stop kissing and laughing.  That is the best decor for any wedding.  They chose to take many of their formal photos on Boston’s waterfront where they were engaged.  It was just lovely!   Donna got ready at Seaport Hotel while Tom got ready at their home. Their first look was at the arches of the Seaport World Trade Center with a beautiful view of the city skyline. The cathedral was absolutely striking.  But the best part was when Tom stopped to […]

Your Wedding Stationary – A word from the experts!

I love wedding invitations!  There, I said it!  They are an opportunity to let your friends and family know you care about them enough to include them on your special day.  They are also an opportunity to let them in on what lies in store for them.  When thinking about wedding invitations, I looked to one of my very favorite brides who also happens to be an expert.  Katie Rotio is the owner of Katherine Elizabeth Events custom designs invitations, stationary, and the most gorgeous paper flowers.  Below, are some of my favorite details from Katie’s wedding.  She custom designed every bit of it!     When I asked Katie to describe her creative process and some tips on invitations, she said the following…   “So many clients come to me and start with their colors. Chances are you love the colors you picked for your wedding, but it really should be a minor detail to incorporate them into the design. SO many clients become obsessed with perfectly matching the invitations to the wedding colors. While I think color is important, most wedding guests won’t remember or even notice  whether your invitations perfectly match your bridesmaid dresses. I prefer to focus […]

The Engagement Shoot-Do you really need one?

I love engagement shoots!  They are a great opportunity to get to know my clients.  They also give us the chance to leisurely shoot in the best light of the day.  That gift is not always available on a wedding day.  But I don’t include engagement shoots in every wedding photography package as they are not always necessary.  I recommend considering your options before booking your engagement shoot. So is an engagement shoot really for you?  The first thing you want to consider is what you’ll do with the images.  There are several great uses for engagement photos.  Below, are just a few. You’ve chosen the perfect Save the Dates and they have a space for an image of the two of you. You’d like to incorporate the images into the wedding day (photo guestbook, signing board, table numbers, some framed photos as guests enter the ballroom, etc.). You’ve got a wall space in your home that is just begging for a professional photo of the two of you!   If you’ve got a great way to use the images from your engagement shoot, then, of course, you should include one in your wedding package.  If you don’t, you’ll want […]

Annette and Brian’s Winter Wedding at Endicott Estate

Winter weddings in New England are so romantic!  I had such a blast photographing Annette and Brian’s big day.  They hosted the celebration at the Endicott Estate which is a lovely mansion in Dedham.  Everything was on site, which is perfect for a winter wedding.  And the fresh snow on the ground make for an ideal winter wedding backdrop.  Annette and Brian incorporated some fantastic, personal details on their wedding day.  Brian is a professional musician, and Annette created beautiful paper flowers out of music sheets of their first dance.  It was a fantastic DIY touch!  Annette’s excitement was palpable.  She just beamed the entire day.  I don’t think I would have been able to capture an image without that amazing smile on her face.  And of course, with their music background, the band was practically family.  I loved the energy it created on the dance floor.  My favorite part of the night had to be watching Brian’s eight year old son, Connor on the bandstand.  He crushed it!   Don’t forget to check out their full slide show! 2015 Year In Review

Happy New Year!  2015 Has been a fun and wild ride with some fantastic clients and new opportunities.  I’ve had the honor of documenting some truly unique weddings in gorgeous locations in the heart of the city, on  islands, in private homes and in barns.  The celebrations have ranged from elegant ballroom parties to easy clambakes with lawn games.   As a professional, I’ve grown in many ways this year.  I started the year with a complete re-brand including a brand new website.  I explored new tools to improve my craft including external lighting for receptions and evening photos.  But with all these great changes, I never changed my focus.  When it comes to shooting weddings, I will always consider myself a story teller first.  Below, are some of my favorite moments captured at the weddings I photographed in 2015.   There were so many wonderful memories to choose from.  Some highlights include shooting two sisters in the same year, seeing both the bride and groom break a glass during their Jewish ceremony, shooting for some fantastic fellow wedding professionals and my first ever fake first look (the look on the groom’s face was priceless).  There were epic dance floors, […]

Alexandra and Louie’s Autumn, Red Lion Inn Wedding

Alex and Louie are one of the most lovely couples I’ve ever met.  I can’t get over how utterly taken they are with each other.  I knew at our engagement session that they were going to be a blast on their wedding day.  They had a picture perfect day at the Red Lion Inn in Cohassett.  Alex got ready in RLI’s Salon du Soleil among beautiful chandeliers and some great light.  The light pinks and yellows of Alex’s decor were a perfect foil for the Fall foliage while the branch in Alex’s bouquet and the pumpkin place cards were a perfect homage to the season.  We had their first look under one RLI’s covered bridges and it was one of the sweetest first looks I’ve ever seen.  Just check out the look on Louie’s face.  It was priceless.  The grounds were popping with great foliage and greenery for formal photos.  And the barn was gorgeously lit with pin lighting and candles.  Guests danced all evening to the Motown band Sweet Beats with a surprise performance by the groom.  You can see from the photos, Alex was totally tickled.  Alex and Louie, thanks so much for allowing me to be a […]

Alexandra and Tim’s Romantic Estate Wedding

I just love how Alexandra and Tim created their wedding theme.  Everywhere you looked, there was a reminder of two things they love.  The two share a globe collection and Alexandra is an avid (to say the least) reader.  So naturally, their decor and centerpieces were all composed of globes and books.  And the best part is all of the books came from Alexandra’s own collection!  Apparently, it was just a small sample of her collection.  Girlfriend likes to read!  They also had one of my all time favorite place card ideas.  Each place card was on a library card and they were all filed away in a card catalog.  It tied into their theme perfectly!  The wedding day was a gorgeous fall day at the Harding Allen Estate.  The couple got ready right at the estate and had their ceremony in the outdoor garden.  There was no lack of gorgeous background for the formal photos all around the property.  And guests finished the celebration in the estate ballroom where Tim’s friends (including some band members of Tim’s) showed their rock and roll roots on the dance floor.  It was a great party!     Don’t forget to check out […]
