Claudette and Jonathan’s Royal Sonesta Cambridge Wedding

Claudette and Jonathan enjoyed a gorgeous day in Cambridge for their wedding celebration.  And I just can’t get over Claudette’s smile all day!  We started at the Royal Sonesta getting ready.  No first look for this traditional couple.  Wedding details included Jonathan’s gorgeous watch that was a gift from Claudette and a very special photo charm tucked into Claudette’s bouquet to remember her father.  The striking MIT Chapel made a beautiful backdrop for their ceremony.  Then it was back to the Sonesta for special toasts and salsa dancing!  Their first dance kicked off the dancing starting with a lovely acoustic version of Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream morphing quickly into a fabulous Latin rhythm!  It didn’t take long for the dance floor to fill! Don’t forget to check out their full slide show!   VENDORS Ceremony: MIT Chapel Reception: Royal Sonesta Cambridge Cake: Montilio’s Video: Black Tie Video DJ: Good Times Unlimited, Inc Hair & Makeup: Blushing Brides Flowers: Stapleton

Kelly and Jake’s Smith Barn Wedding

With the threat of thunder showers all day, we prepared for a total wash out.  It was so wonderful when the skies cleared just in time for the wedding festivities to start!  It turned out to be a gorgeous day for Kelly and Jake’s outdoor ceremony and barn wedding at the Smith Barn.  Kelly and Jake’s first look was just as the sprinkles were ending.  We got some adorable rainy photos with the help of an umbrella and some rain boots.  Formal photos were taken all around the fabulous grounds at Smith Barn.  They enjoyed a beautiful garden ceremony and celebrated the marriage with a reception in the barn.  The colorful details of pinks, greens and peaches were gorgeous in the rustic setting.  And I just love the pennant flags they hung in the barn!   And don’t forget to check out their full slide show!  VENDORS Flowers: Leslie Floral Designs Venue:Smith Barn Makeup: Maureen Sullivan Catering (linens): Cloverleaf Catering

Amanda and Michael’s Waterfront Boston Wedding

After threats of rain all week, Amanda and Michael’s wedding day was just gorgeous with a brilliant blue sky!  We spent the entire day at the Exchange Conference Center with gave us great photos on the pier and on the ocean.  The ceremony was held outside right on the water with a tented dinner to follow.  The tent was gorgeous complete with an organza draped ceiling and chandeliers.  The flowers by Jeri Solomon Floral Design gave the tent and airy garden feel.  After dinner, guests headed inside the Exchange Conference Center and danced the night away!  I’d have to say, the star of the show was absolutely Amanda’s daughter Leah.  Amanda and Michael did a wonderful job including her in the entire day.  She was the flower girl, received a beautiful locket from Michael during the ceremony, sat at the head table and was even a part of their special first dance.  It was so touching!   And don’t forget to take a peek at their full slide show! Lisa & Josh’s Cambridge Waterfront Wedding

Lisa and Josh’s wedding was just gorgeous!  We spent the day at the Royal Sonesta in Cambridge.  Their first look was right on the Charles River with under a brilliant blue sky with a fabulous view of Boston.  It was a windy day, but Lisa and Josh were excellent sports about it.  We were also able to sneak out for a few more bridal portraits after the ceremony just before sunset.  Their traditional Jewish ceremony was held under a splendid chuppah of delicate pink and white flowers.  When the ballroom opened up, the fantastic view of the Boston city skyline was revealed.  That, along with the stylish white dance floor and dramatic ballroom lighting made a perfect backdrop for their fabulous party.  Don’t forget to watch the full slide show below for one of the best first dance songs ever!         Check out their full slide show here!  Their fabulous vendors… Royal Sonesta Boston Rentals Unlimited Beantown Band Suzanne B. Brandon’s Almost Senior Portrait

Tis the season!  Senior portraits are due at High Schools all over New England.  While I finish up the last of my senior portrait shoots, I’ve still got time for another special portrait.  Brandon is in 10th grade so he’s still got some time before he worries about his senior photos.  But his mom’s got a special birthday party planned for him and wanted some professional photos.  We headed to one of my favorite parts of Boston for a cool and urban background.  And we finished up on Boston’s waterfront for a fantastic view of the Boston City Skyline.   I enjoy working with teenagers.  It is bit of a challenge to get them to feel comfortable (especially shooting in public places) and look natural in front of the camera.  But I like to think I’ve got a knack for it.  Here are some of the images taken of Brandon.  He’s a great kid and was a fantastic sport.  I hope I get a chance to do the Senior shoot in a few years!

Why I Call Myself a Story Teller – Candid vs. Styled Wedding Photography

I believe there are as many wedding photography styles as there are wedding photographers.  No two photographers are quite the same.  Which is great!  Because no two couples are quite the same.  Photographers tout themselves as Photojournalists, High Fashion Photographers, Documentary Photographers, Traditional Photographers, Candid Photographers and countless other types of wedding photographers.  These terms can mean different things to different people.  So it’s important to look at a photographer’s full portfolio to see if it speaks to you.   When choosing the perfect wedding photographer, it’s important to think about how you plan to use your wedding images.  Are your images an opportunity to make your dream of being a high fashion model materialize?  If that’s the case, I’ll be honest.  I’m not your girl.  That doesn’t mean I don’t love that idea!  I think it would be a blast to feel like a celebrity for a day and have the images to prove it.  I simply don’t provide that style of photography.  Your wedding day is over so quickly!  I don’t want you spending time with me styling your wedding.  I want you out enjoying your precious time interacting with your closest friends and family.   On the […]

Dianna & Ben – Seaport World Trade Center, Spring Wedding in Boston

Dianna and Ben were so much fun on their wedding day!  And I was thrilled we finally got the early Spring weather we were supposed to have for an early spring wedding in Boston!  Their first look on Seaport World Trade Center’s Boulevard of Flags was just gorgeous.  The flags and the Boston city skyline make a perfect backdrop for their formal photos.  The ceremony in the Winter Garden was so bright and airy it felt like we were outside.  The flowers were the epitome of Spring with beautiful, soft pinks and greens.  That soft, lovely palate transitioned into neon up-lighting in the Harborview Ballroom so guests could dance the night away!  But my favorite photos of the day were the quick ones we were able to sneak in on the huge Harborview Ballroom deck right on Boston Harbor.  The light was soft and Dianna and Ben were truly blissful having just finished their vows.  It was a fantastic day!  Some of my favorite wedding photos from the day… First Look and Formal Photos Wedding Details   Special Wedding Day Moments And here is their full wedding day slide show!   Thanks to her great vendors! Do You Have to Like Your Wedding Photographer?

I recently had the President of a Boston based company to my studio for a head shot.  We sat down in my office to talk about how he was going to use his images and the message he wanted to convey with them.  He was a nice man and I really enjoyed talking with him.  We created a lovely rapport which made the actual photo session a breeze.  When it was over, the man asked me if I photographed weddings.  Of course!  I love shooting weddings!  He proceeded to tell me about his daughter’s beautiful wedding and the difficult time they had with their own wedding photographer.  He didn’t go into detail, but it seemed the photographer’s conduct that day made the photos unpleasant and that showed in the images.   The discussion got me thinking.  Do you have to like your wedding photographer?  I say yes.  A Bride and Groom on their wedding day will often spend a large amount of time with their wedding photographer.  I normally arrive hours prior to the wedding to photograph the Bride getting ready.  I’ve found my demeanor upon arrival can make or break the entire day.  If I appear stressed and harried, […]

Daylight not Included – Shooting Portraits at Night

Wedding and event photography can be unique as photographers have very little control over their setting and subjects.  We rarely get to weigh in on the time of day these events happen.  Occasionally, my wedding clients will consult with me when deciding their ceremony time and I love when they do.  But I understand that optimal lighting is not the top priority for my couples.  In fact, if you’ve hired a professional, seasoned and talented photographer, you should not have to worry about lighting at all.  A great wedding photographer should know how to create beautiful images regardless of the lighting.   So when I’m told my only chance to get the entire wedding party together is after sunset, I’m not phased at all.  Not only am I confident I can create beautiful indoor images.  I’m downright excited about shooting outdoors at night.  I get the chance to pull out extra lights and stands and create a fabulous evening portrait.  When you know what you’re doing, evening can be a perfect time for photography.  I’m more able to create and control my own lighting at night.  It can be a blast!  Below, are some of my favorite evening photos.
