Marlene and Joe – Royal Sonesta, Cambridge

Once or twice a season, I work with clients who love each other deeply, are so excited about celebrating their marriage with the people they love most, and are so not excited about being the center of attention!  I’d say Marlene and Joe absolutely fall into that category.  These two are a great couple and truly meant for each other.  Watching them in the quiet moments was just lovely.  And I loved seeing their close friends and family celebrate their union.  Marlene’s cousin, a Cantor and Joe’s cousin, a Rabbi shared duties officiating the ceremony with the Charles River and Boston city skyline as their backdrop at the Royal Sonesta.  And it was a beautiful day to have that view!  We were able to sneak out just before sunset to catch the prettiest pink light bouncing off the buildings on the skyline.  Here are some of my favorite images from the day. I love Marlene’s bouquet!  It’s the perfect blend of soft colors and interesting textures. I just love the view at the Sonesta.  It was the perfect backdrop for the first look.  And right next to that area is a lovely, shady, tree lined space that is perfect for […]

Alexandra and Bill – Downtown Harvard Club, Boston

Alex and Bill’s wedding was focused on family and fun.  They held memories of their grandparent’s closely all day.  Alex wore her grandmother’s ring on her right hand and Bill wore his grandfather’s shirt studs.  The couple is just adorable and didn’t stop grinning and laughing all day.  They are super sweet and super geeky (I say with utmost respect and affection)!  Toasts consisted of stories of how hardworking they both are and how no one can really understand anything they work on.  And check out their uber geeky test tube cake toppers.  But all those brain cells didn’t stop them from partying like rock stars!  Check out those moves on the dance floor!  And check out some of my favorite images from the day.   Alex got ready at the Downtown Harvard Club which has one of the most incredible views of Boston.  I am in love with her dress and birdcage veil.  Totally classic look. The ceremony was at Saint Cecilia Parish which is a gorgeous church with beautiful light.  I just love how Bill kept kissing Alex’s hand.  One of their very talented bridesmaids gave a violin solo which was a total treat. Formals were taken in […]

Kara and Ernesto – Wentworth by the Sea, Newcastle, NH

Summer Wedding in New Hampshire Kara and Ernesto’s wedding was filled with special memories.  Kara got ready in her childhood home surrounded by memories of her grandparents (including her grandmother’s wedding gown).  We headed to Rye Harbor State Park for the ceremony.  The park is a special place to Kara and her family as it is the location of many years of family reunions.  Her grandfather’s ashes were actually spread there.  The ceremony was officiated by Kara’s brother.  After the threat of thundershowers all week, the weather held up beautifully!  I suspect her grandfather was looking down and smiling.  I’m so grateful for Abby with Nicole Mower Events helping everything to run smoothly at the ceremony.  The celebration was held at the gorgeous Wentworth by the Sea.  It was a fantastic party!  But my favorite  part had to be the amazing video played just prior to the introduction of the Bride and Groom.  The video included scenes from Kara and Ernesto’s childhood and relationship and let right up to coverage of getting ready and the ceremony!  This Instant Replay video is a specialty of Black Tie Video and is always amazing to watch!  Here are some of my favorite photos […]

Brett’s Bar Mitzvah, The Verve

This was such a fun day!  Brett is kind, sweet, goofy and smart young guy and I had a blast shooting him and his family.  Brett was a great sport during his portrait session.  The Verve was a fabulous and funky backdrop for photos.  And I can’t begin to say how much fun the Bar Mitzvah celebration was.  Much of that was due to event planner extraordinaire Michelle Schaufeld of The Day Of, Event Coordinator Specialists.  The ballroom at The Verve was washed in vibrant blue light and decked out with chrome centerpieces.  The DJ’s rocked with fantastic games including a great guy versus girl dance off.  But my favorite moment of the evening was when Brett bowed out of a game so his little sister had a chance at winning it.  What a great guy!  Here are a few of my favorite images of the day. We started the day at Congregation B’nai Shalom with some family portraits.  It’s a gorgeous temple with beautiful light! Brett’s candle lighting was fantastic.  I could tell just how close he was to his family and friends!  And can we talk about that excellent backdrop behind the DJ?  Love it! I’m always a […]

Juliette’s Bat Mitzvah at Red Lantern, Boston

Juliette’s Bat Mitzvah was such a cool party! It was a blast to shoot. The celebration was at the Red Lantern restaurant in Boston. It has amazing decor with such interesting nooks. I was happy to be able to arrive early to capture the true character of this location. Before the party, I got a chance to spend some alone time taking portraits of Juliette who is a beautiful young woman (inside and out). She seemed much more mature than her age and I loved her spirit. As guests started to arrive the excitement built. The games started and the food started flowing. Oh my, the food! I’ve never seen such a spread at a Mitzvah! Guests savored a multi-course dinner. But that didn’t stop them from creating an epic dance party after! Take a peek at some of my favorite images from the day.   We started at the temple with a few quick portraits.  But I must admit, Juliette was more excited about her friends arriving and the day beginning.  I would have been too! My favorite part of the day was probably the time spent at the Red Lantern prior to the event.  What a gorgeous space! The […]

Abby and Kevin’s Fairmont Copley Plaza Boston Wedding

After shooting one of her girlfriend’s wedding, I was so excited to get a call from Abby about her wedding day.  It’s such a compliment to hear from people who know your work first hand. Abby and Kevin were a joy to work with. They’re a ton of fun and have fabulous taste!  Their ceremony was at the breathtaking Cathedral of the Holy Cross.  I don’t think I’ll ever get used to shooting there.  After family photos at the church, the couple and wedding party headed to Boston’s famous Public Garden for formals.  And it was a gorgeous day to shoot there!  As if the wedding day were not beautiful enough already, Abby and Kevin’s celebration was at the elegant Fairmont Copley Plaza Boston.  Here are some of my favorite images from their picture perfect day. How beautiful is Abby’s smile! The Cathedral of the Holy Cross is just amazing to shoot.  It was perfect for Abby and Kevin’s large wedding party. My favorite part of formals was the walk we took with Abby and Kevin from the Public Garden to the Fairmont Copley Plaza. The reception was in the oval room of the Fairmont.  It’s such a pretty room.  […]

Olga and Vadim’s Four Seasons Boston Wedding

Olga and Vadim’s wedding was picture perfect.  After threats of rain all week, it turned out to be a gorgeous Spring day.  We met at the Four Seasons Boston hotel and had their first look on it’s famous staircase overlooking Boston’s Public Garden where we spent time doing family and wedding party photos.  The gardens were green and lush.  Just like you’d expect from Spring in Boston.  After formal photos, we headed back to the Four Seasons for their ceremony and reception.  Vadim and Olga giggled and grinned through the ceremony and with every special speech and toast at the reception.  Here are just a few images from their gorgeous wedding day.   Formals in the Boston Public Garden.  I love the bridesmaid’s dresses!  The muted blues were just gorgeous. Beautiful ceremony in the Four Seasons Governor’s room.  They added a ceremony with a special bottle of wine in a beautiful wooden box.  They each wrote letters to the other and had their fathers lock the letters int the box with the bottle of wine.  They will open the box, read the letters and drink the wine on their 5 year anniversary. The reception was in the gorgeous Aujourd’hui room.  […]

Alexandra and Richard’s Spring, Seaport Boston Wedding

Boston Seaport Wedding Alex and Rich are great fun!  And they exemplify many things I hold dear.  Family is so important to them.  So much, that Alex named her grandmother (Bubbie) as her Matron of Honor.  Bubbie was celebrating a very special 97th birthday that weekend.  Alex and Rich tied the knot with a traditional Jewish Ceremony in Seaport Hotel‘s Winter Garden. The Winter Garden is all windows, facing an outdoor garden and filled with light.  It’s a joy to shoot.  Guests moved to Seaport’s Plaza Ballroom for the celebration where they dance from the moment the entered the room until the very end of the evening.  The ballroom was covered in light pinks and creams complete with beautiful, soft up-lighting.  The room was just gorgeous.    Alex and Rich got ready right at Seaport.  Alex wanted to make sure Bubbie was looking her best.  It got pretty touching as they all watched her get her makeup done. Their first look was right in the Plaza Garden.  It was a beautiful day.  The garden and city skyline were fantastic backdrops for formal photos. Did I mention the fabulous light in the ceremony space?  Alex’s great-uncle was the Rabbi that day […]

Is Up-Lighting Right for Your Event Space?

There are so many ways to personalize your decor.  It’s tough to decide which special touches are worth your precious funds.  When trying to stretch your decor dollars, one detail that can make a huge impact is up-lighting.  This gorgeous phenomenon involves lights placed on the floor strategically throughout your event space along the wall.  They help to glow up the wall and, when placed correctly, can change the entire look and even color of your space.  They can help create depth and interest in a large, open space.  They can make any ballroom match your color scheme.  Or, they can turn your dance floor into a night club toward the end of the night.   Up-lighting can be subtle or dramatic.  You can add touches of color in key spots of a room.  Or you can wash the room in an easy amber tone.  Or you can get dramatic with vibrant color or by using multiple colors at the same time or morphing one into the other.  My favorite is when a client starts subtle for formalities and dinner and ends dramatic for dancing.  But you’ll need to make sure your lighting package remains on site for that fabulous look. A Week in the Life of a Boston Photographer

As a Boston photographer,  I am always honored to be able to capture special and memorable events. My job gives me the opportunity to have fun every single day of the week, I can travel to old and new places in the Boston area and meet amazing people. Here are some of the events my job has taken me on one week in April: A Truly talented jazz harpist at the Scullers Jazz Club:  I was hired to shoot the first headlining concert for jazz harpist, Charles Overton.  It was a fantastic show and musicians are always a blast to shoot.  I’ve always considered it a treat.  Ironically, I got this job from one of my contacts in the wedding world Felice Pomeranz, one of his teachers.   Porsche Norwell for the unveiling of the new 911: I was hired by event planner extraordinaire Carol McKean for a swanky little event planned to unveil the new Porsche dealership in Norwell and the new Porsche 911.  Guests walked down a red carpet, enjoyed a whiskey tasting and a fabulous raw bar and hors d’oeuvres while waiting for the unveiling.  And what a car!   Crazy funky Brian Thomas/ Alex Lee-Clark Big Band at the Ryles […]
