Amanda and Matt – Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel, Boston

Amanda and Matt were set to have a picture perfect Summer wedding in Boston.  The weather was absolutely gorgeous!  Not too hot.  Not too cold.  Sun with beautiful puffy clouds.  The ceremony was set at the gorgeous Gate of Heaven Church right near their first home together in South Boston.  After the ceremony, we would head to the Boston Public Garden followed by a fabulous reception at the Fairmont Copley Plaza.  What could go wrong!  Wait…what?  Thousands of people are descending on the exact area we plan to shoot formals?  No, I’m sure it won’t be a problem!  And as luck would have it, it wasn’t.  After coming up with all sorts of alternate plans, Boston’s Free Speech Rally finished up shortly after the ceremony leaving the Public Garden open for the photos Amanda and Matt had envisioned.  The wedding party even managed to borrow a sign from the rally to commemorate the event.  The rest of the day went off without a hitch!  Here are some of my favorite images from the day.   Despite some nerves surrounding the rally, Amanda and Matt were all smiles getting ready.  I love the special touch of a rosary in Amanda’s wedding […]

Cassandra and David – Boston Public Library

I was excited to shoot Cassie and David’s wedding for several reasons.  First, Cassie found me through her cousin, a previous bride of mine.  So it gave me a chance to see the much beloved Tower family again!  Second, their wedding was at the Boston Public Library which is a photographer’s dream location (at least this photographer!).  The architecture is just spectacular inside and out.  And finally, Cassie and David are a truly lovely couple.  They spent their day relaxed and smiling.  Their biggest priority was fun and family.  Totally my kind of couple!  We started the day getting ready at the Fairmont Copley Hotel and walked right over to the BPL for wedding party photos.  It was a gorgeous summer day in Boston.  The wedding ceremony and cocktail hour were right in the the BPL courtyard.  What a spectacular location for a ceremony!  After that, guests made their way into the library for dinner and dancing.  Here are some of my favorite photos from the day.   Cassie was so excited getting ready.  No nerves.  Just fun. I can’t say enough about how gorgeous the Boston Public Library is.  But Cassie and David would have lit up any space. […]

Ashley and Neil – Hyatt Harborside Boston

Every single one of my clients is very special to me.  But I’m not going to lie.  This one was extra special.  Ashley and her family are fellow Winthrop natives.  Our families have grown up loving our home town.  Ashley’s sister-in-law is one of my wedding assistants.  It was such an honor to be asked to be a part of Ashley and Neil’s wedding day.  Ashley got ready in her childhood home in Winthrop, while Neil prepared at their venue, the Hyatt Harborside Boston.  It was a splendid early summer day!  After the beautiful church ceremony (officiated by the family’s good friend Father Rich), we all headed to the Hyatt Harborside Boston to celebrate.  Formal photos were on the waterfront facing the Boston city skyline.  Guests had a cocktail hour on the Hyatt’s sprawling lawn and dinner and dancing were in the hotel’s permanent tent decorated in lovely soft pastel colors.  Toasts were sweet and funny.  But this crowd was just waiting to dance.  It was great fun!  Here are some of my favorite photos from the day.   I loved watching Ashley’s mom help her get ready.  It was so sweet.  And as an extra nod to family, Ashley […]

Jocelyn and Vadim’s Wedding – Marriott Long Wharf, Boston

Jocelyn and Vadim are such a fun couple.  And they are utterly head over heals for each other.  They couldn’t keep their hand off each other the entire wedding day!  It was fabulous to shoot.  The celebration took place at the Marriott Long Wharf on Boston’s waterfront.  I met Jocelyn in her room to capture some photos of her getting ready.  They had an unforgettable first look in Christopher Columbus park.  The park was packed on Memorial Day weekend.  But from the way they looked at each other,  you would have thought Jocelyn and Vadim were the only two people for miles.  After a touching ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktail hour on the deck overlooking the water and the city.  After cocktails, they headed into the ballroom for some fabulous toasts, dinner and tons of dancing.  Here are a few of my favorite photos from the day.   Jocelyn’s mom bought her a very special necklace for the wedding.  They shared a special moment putting it on. I just love the look on Vadim’s face when he first saw Jocelyn.  He was floored by his gorgeous bride!  We had a fabulous day in Christopher Columbus Park for formal photos.  The park […]

Samantha and Jonathan’s Wedding – Seaport Hotel, Boston

Samantha and Jonathan are a fun and easy couple.  I knew we were going to have a blast on their wedding day!  Their wedding was all about friends, family and a good time.  I arrived at Seaport Hotel, where Sam was getting ready and calm as a cucumber.  I was in love with her gorgeous, lace, fitted wedding gown.  When I mentioned how much I loved the detail she told me how she had always assumed she’d choose a big, full ballgown for her wedding.  But, when she tried this one on, it was just perfect.  She was right!  It fit like a glove and looked just dreamy!   Their first look was outside on the upper level of the Seaport World Trade Center in front of the iconic Boston City Skyline.  After some gorgeous garden family photos and wedding party photos by the World Trade Center arches, I took the couple to the street.  Samantha and Jonathan are all about the water, so I knew we’d be doing photos by the Seaport District’s waterfront.   Both the ceremony and reception were in Seaport’s elegant Plaza Ballroom which was enhanced with colorful up-lighting and gorgeous pin lit centerpieces of whites […]

Creating the Perfect Spring Wedding

Spring is a magical time, especially in Boston. Now that we can say goodbye to the bitter cold and slip into lighter, vibrant clothing. Couples often choose to get married in the spring as the weather is warmer, the flowers are blooming and we aren’t exhausted by heat waves. Let’s explore ways to create a picture-perfect wedding. Don’t forget, if you need a photographer for your Boston wedding, contact Nikki Cole at 617.846.3314. Go Green It’s the spring! Enjoy the outdoors, have a night under the starts or set up a whimsical tent in a field. Incorporating natural elements such as wood and stone for your table setting is soothing. Adding some green elements also creates a beautiful “undone” style. Rustic Themed The barn themed wedding has certainly been trending in recent years, particularly in the spring. Whether you’re using an older barn filled with original architecture or a newly built barn, a rustic themed wedding is filled with charm. Outdoor Wedding With flowers in bloom, spring is the perfect time to have a wedding in Boston. Celebrate your wedding at a park, vineyard, ranch or garden. Explore the outdoors as the scenery will add a natural elegance to your […]

Questions You Should Be Asking Your Wedding Photographer

You’ve been planning your wedding for months and have everything perfectly mapped out, except for the photographer. Don’t panic, hiring a wedding photographer is simple with the right preparation. Below is a helpful list of questions to ask if you’re in the process of looking for a wedding photographer. How far in advance should I book? Wedding photographers can only shoot one wedding per day.  So they book up more quickly than many expect. How many weddings have you photographed? An experienced photographer will have several years of service and several hundred weddings under their belt. What style is your expertise? Whether you want your photographer to be unobtrusive or more involved in your day, is is important to make sure your styles match Do you use a shot list? You should be able to count on your photographer to shoot the important moments of your day.  But a shot list for family formal photos is a big help to a photographer. What type of equipment do you use? You want to make sure your photographer is using professional grade gear rather than the semi-pro dslr’s on the market. What information will you need from me? Know what homework you’ll […]

How to Prepare for Your Engagement Photos

An engagement is a beautiful time in a couple’s life filled with various parties, choosing décor and spending plenty of time with friends and family. If you’ve recently booked your engagement shoot and want it to go seamlessly, read my tips below! Choosing the Location Think about places that are meaningful to you as a couple such as the proposal location, where you went on the first date or favorite spots such as beaches, forests and gardens. When you have the opposite problem and there are too many wonderful locations, your photographer can help you narrow down your choices to get the best variety with the least amount of travel. What to Wear Pack at least two outfits – one casual and one a bit dressier. Avoid matching your outfits, rather coordinate. If he’s wearing a blue tie, opt for a blue sweater. If she’s wearing a red dress, put on a red coat. Smaller patterns are much less visible in images but statement jewelry, colored shoes and scarves stand out beautifully. Makeup or Natural? Most women opt for makeup for their engagement photos even if they don’t wear it on a day-to-day basis. Even some foundation and mascara goes […]

Happy New Year! Best of 2016

Another year has come and gone.  I’m floored to say this is the busiest year Photography by Nikki Cole has ever had.  I’m honored and grateful to have been trusted by so many wonderful people to capture their precious memories in photographs.  As has become tradition, I’d like to share some of my favorite images from 2016’s weddings.  Having photographed so many gorgeous and unique weddings this year, I found it difficult not to post hundreds of wedding images!  But this year, I’m staying true to my new year’s resolution to keep life simple and special.  I’ve chosen my favorite 15 images from each part of the day to post.  I tried to concentrate on the most special images and moments of the year.  My very favorite.  Of course, this means I’ve left so many photographs that I absolutely love on the cutting room floor.  So I hope you’ll take some time to browse through my blog and wedding galleries if you find yourself wanting more.  You’ll notice I chose to not include a single detail photo.  I chose to concentrate on what my wedding photography does best…telling the story.  I chose moments captured in time.  And most of these […]
